It was a long ride from Eureka, but I managed 330 miles again today and wound up in Newport, OR. I seem to drive around town and find a nice pub/restaurant and then look for a motel that's close by. Tonight was Rogue Pub as the Rogue Brewery is right across the river. The staff was real friendly, as was the people who came in and out sitting next to me. Every 1/2 mile of the Redwood Highway can be summed up as "the most breathtaking views in the state." Likewise every bed & breakfast along the way has "the finest ocean view around." It must be hard to compete when your soul income is tourism. I realize I could have taken a photograph at every turn, but then I would only have covered maybe 100 miles. Tonight was my first stretch of weather, and it was really only a heavy mist - but I still needed rain gear and my face-shield helmet.
